Reimagining Well Intervention for Nigeria’s Evolving Production Landscape
Extending the productive life of oil and gas wells remains a priority for operators, yet it is often challenged by declining performance, integrity issues, unplanned downtime, rising costs, and fragmented data. These constraints limit efficiency and reduce overall asset value. Well intervention has therefore become a vital tool for restoring performance, improving recovery, and maintaining operational efficiency in increasingly complex environments. To address these challenges, the Society of Petroleum Engineers Port Harcourt Section hosted a two-day Well Intervention Summit at the Dr Obi Wali International Conference Centre, bringing together industry stakeholders to explore collaboration, innovation, and alignment with global standards. It is the desire of every operator to extend and sustain the projected productive life of a well. However, in reality, achieving this is far from straightforward. Across the oil and gas industry, operators are constantly confronted with challenges such as declining reservoir performance, well integrity issues, unplanned downtime, increasing intervention costs, fragmented data systems, and limited real-time visibility into well conditions. These factors often hinder optimal production and reduce overall asset value.
As production progresses, it becomes inevitable that operators must re-enter the wellbore to intervene, addressing these operational inefficiencies and restoring or enhancing output. Well intervention, therefore, is not just a routine activity but a critical lever for maximising recovery, improving performance, and safeguarding investments in increasingly complex and cost-sensitive environments.
Recognising the growing importance of tackling these challenges, the leadership of Society of Petroleum Engineers Port Harcourt Section organised a 2-day Well Intervention Summit themed, “Challenges, Collaboration and Conformance: Innovating the Future of Well Intervention for Nigeria’s Production Goals.”
Held at the Dr Obi Wali International Conference Centre on March 31 and April 01, 2026, the Summit convened key stakeholders across the oil and gas value chain. Discussions centered on overcoming persistent industry bottlenecks, leveraging collaboration to drive efficiency, and aligning with global standards to unlock Nigeria’s full production potential.
At CypherCrescent Limited, an Energy Technology Company, we are proud to be at the forefront of tackling industry challenges through innovative solutions that deliver actionable insights, optimise planning, and strengthen well integrity.
During the summit, we showcased our proprietary solutions:
- SEPAL WRM (Well and Reservoir Management) solution,
- SOMA DIAP (Drilling and Intervention Activities Planner), and
- Eagle Gaze WIMS (Well Integrity Management Solution)
Through these solutions, our clients have successfully executed efficient, cost-effective, and production-enhancing well intervention campaigns, turning industry challenges into measurable performance gains.
A member of our team, Lowell Ufot, also led one of the breakout sessions on ‘Data Governance and Integration for Well Intervention’, which emphasised the role proper data governance and its integration plays in the identification of suitable candidate wells for intervention and successful execution.
We remain committed to making significant value contributions to the oil and gas industry, in the pursuit of attaining the set production goals while doing this in an environmentally sustainable manner.
